We Develop Better Leaders and Create More Cohesive Teams

The Program was founded in 2008 with the goal of providing organizations with the best leadership development and team building services in the country.

We believe in personal development, leadership development, and team building through shared adversity. Experience has shown us that we only grow as individuals and as a team when we are outside of our comfort zone.

While our services are physical in nature, we are NOT a fitness company, nor are we focused on improving individual talent. Talent is valuable, but it is good leadership and teamwork that enable reliable performance at the highest levels of competition.

Our objective at The Program is to help the members of your organization understand and internalize this reality, and in doing so elevate their performance to the next level.

Ethos and Core Principles

To achieve our mission, The Program has adopted the following ethos:

We are good team leaders and good teammates, and we prepare ourselves every day to fill either role.

We fulfill this ethos by making a commitment to our three core principles:

  • We are physically and mentally tough.
  • We don’t make excuses and we don’t let others make excuses for us.
  • We work hard! And to us at The Program, working hard means we do ONE MORETM!

We apply the above ethos and core principles to every aspect of our work, and we challenge our clients to do the same. By internalizing these values and making them second nature, it becomes possible to face and overcome even the most intense challenges that life may present.

Our Approach

The Experience of Shared Adversity

We believe that while better leadership and team cohesion can be taught in the classroom, these skills can only be developed through the experience of shared adversity. We do not start becoming better leaders or teammates until we are pushed outside of our comfort zones.

At The Program, we don't just teach these skills — we develop them! Each of our services is intentionally designed to create an environment where participants are challenged and pushed outside of their respective comfort zones. Mission success is dependent on participants providing leadership to one another and working together towards a common objective. This experiential, hands-on approach achieves in-the-field results for teams that would simply be impossible in a classroom-only setting.

At The Program, we train participants not merely to lead and work together as a team, but also to constantly improve in their ability to do so. We emphasize the importance of becoming “that much better” each and every day, and have adopted the company slogan ONE MORETM to reinforce this message. In order to compete at the highest levels, teams must not only embrace the values of leadership and teamwork, but must also be committed to continually taking these skills to the next level.

Our extensive experience in special forces and elite athletic contexts has led us to believe that a context of physical adversity is uniquely effective in developing better leadership and teamwork. We conduct our training within this context for interested clients, whether or not their day-to-day responsibilities are physical in nature.

Recognizing that the American workforce encompasses a wide spectrum of physical abilities, we work closely with each client organization to create an effective training environment that accommodates the circumstances of all participants. Safety is an important priority for us and we take this into account when designing every aspect of our training.

Given the physical nature of our experiential training service, it is normal for some participants to feel anxiety prior to going through this training. Yet, many of these same participants are among the most enthusiastic advocates of The Program’s services afterwards. We believe this is due to two factors — one, the safety, relevance, and appropriateness of the training environment, and two, the discovery by these participants that they were capable of accomplishing far more than they had believed possible. This discovery, as well as the leadership and team building skills gained, translate into significant positive outcomes for both these individuals and the teams to which they belong.

About Our Logo

All Spartan Warriors carried a shield that bore the Greek symbol λ (pronounced “lambda”). It stood for Laconia, the area in Southern Greece where, in the 10th Century BC, the Spartans defeated the local populace and founded Sparta, the most powerful of all the Greek city-states. Spartan warriors forming up in phalanx would place their shield to their left or to their right, protecting not themselves but their fellow warrior.

In the 4th Century BC, Phillip II of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great, sent a message to Sparta saying, “If I enter Laconia, I will level Sparta to the ground.” The Spartans responded with a single, terse reply: “If…”

The Program has adopted the Spartans’ shield as our logo, in honor of their unwavering commitment to excellence through superior leadership and teamwork. In stark contrast to what our parents and society may tell us today, the Spartans knew that we as individuals are not the most important person in the world: the warrior to our left and to our right is. The Spartan shield reminds us of this truth and challenges us to overcome adversity by working together and placing our fellow warriors ahead of ourselves.
